The Original Women’s VOICES Theater Project

The very first of the Women’s VOICES Theater Project was a response to a Dramatists Guild study, which showed that only 22% of American theater produced from 2016-2019 were written by female playwrights. Contributors were challenged to bring their visions and voices to the stage as authors, directors, and ensemble-members, with each woman creating a ten to fifteen minute segment of the show.

An ongoing study by the Lilly Awards in partnership with the Dramatists Guild has found that only 22% of the plays produced in the U.S. in the last three years were written by women. Only 22%.

If life worked like the theater, 4 out of 5 things you had ever heard would have been said by men.
