Hero’s Journaling Project

Our visual journaling projects amplify youth voices of Latin America. Emerging bilingual students at Basalt Middle School, Carbondale Middle School, and Glenwood Springs Middle School use collage, painting, map-drawing, self-portraits and more to craft and express personal stories or transformation, with many students choosing to write their immigration stories.

This project won an award! “GLENWOOD SPRINGS MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AWARDED FOR EXCELLENCE IN STORYTELLING PROJECT”

39 emerging bilingual and new immigrant students worked with VOICES teaching artist Arturo Williams for four weeks to express their Hero’s Journeys - stories of big change and transformation. Their stories were recorded and edited by the Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program.
